Profile

AMBC SA was established in 1994, and today our membership is comprised of leading companies and individuals who are at the forefront of forging business links between Australia and Malaysia.  The links between SA and Malaysia are historical. Colonel William Light, SA’s first Surveyor-General in 1836 was born in Penang and in 1950 the very first Colombo Plan Scholar to Australia from Malaysia came to study in Adelaide. George Town Penang and Adelaide’s sister city relationship dates from 1973.

We attract both large and small companies to our membership base and from sectors such as resources, technology, education, agriculture, manufacturing, transport, and professional services firms. The diversity of our membership reflects the growing trade linkages between South Australia and Malaysia, and guarantees a strong network of experienced business people who are committed to developing business in this region.

Every year since 1998, the Council has offered the “AMBC SA Merdeka Awards” which recognises outstanding international students from Malaysia.  The well established social, economic and professional links and bonds of friendship forged over many years between South Australia and Malaysia have been developed mainly through the efforts of SA graduates.
